ICAR-CIRCOT Conducted ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ during 15-19 June 2026 in 5 Tehsils of Pune District to Promote Sustainable Agriculture
As part of the nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, from 1–30 June 2026, the ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, conducted an extensive farmer awareness and outreach campaign across 16 villages in Maval, Purandar, Haveli, Daund and Baramati Tehsils of Pune district, Maharashtra during 15-19 June 2026 benefiting 450 farmers, including 390 male and 60 female farmers. During the five day outreach programme, interactive farmer meetings, awareness programmes, and technical discussions were organized in the villages of Sadvali, Kolvihire, Veer, Mandaki, Adachiwadi, Mhatobachi Alandi, Uruli Kanchan, Tarade, Tondal, Mahur, Sayambachiwadi, Naigaon, Peth, Shindawane, Valati and Kangaon.

The campaign was undertaken with the objective of promoting sustainable agriculture, natural farming, and organic farming practices, soil health management, and balanced use of fertilisers. The programme focused on creating awareness among farmers regarding the long-term benefits of improving soil fertility by soil testing and obtaining soil health card, enhancing soil organic carbon, reducing excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, adopting practices of balanced use of fertilisers, micro-nutrient management and environmentally sustainable farming practices. Valuable support was extended by local farmers, Gram Panchayats representatives, agricultural officers, extension personnel’s, contributing significantly to the success of the campaign.


The campaign was led by Dr. V. G. Arude, with the support of Mr. Uday Kore, and Mr. Sanjay Phalke, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai.
